Anechoic Studios

For the past several years, I have been leading an effort to rehabilitate an amazing anechoic chamber and studio on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. With the aid of several technology grants on campus we have been able to retrofit the original 1962 space with new interfaces and a surround sound mixing environment.   

Kelly Caringer, a doctorate student in the College of Mass Communications and Media Arts (pictured below), has established a strong research agenda based out of the studio. Caringer's research picks up on and extends Alan Blumlein's pioneering work in stereo in the 1930s.
